Recipe for Khatti Meethi Dal
Ingredients
- 2 cups Bengal gram (chana dal)
- 1/2 cup jaggery (gud)
- 1 cup beet root
- 50 gm groundnut
- 1-1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seed
- 3-4 dried dates (khajoor)
- 2 green chillies chopped
- Few curry leaves (cut into bits)
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 3/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1-1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 cup tamarind juice
- 3-4 cloves
- 1 inch cinnamon
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped
Cooking Directions
Rinse the dal thoroughly in tap water and pour in the pressure cooker.
Add chopped beet root and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
When dal is completely cooked then mix the salt and dry spices in it.
Add 1 cup of water and stir continue on medium high flame.
Add jaggery, dates and chopped green chillies.Mix very well and simmer the flame.
On the other side, heat a saucepan and melt the butter in it.Add seeds and curry leaves.
Pour the spluttering seeds over dal and mix the remaining ingredients.Cook for 5-6 more minutes and serve hot with rice or roti.
