Recipe for Karhi Chawal
Ingredients

- Gram flour125 gm
- Onion2
- Yogurt250 gm
- Chili powder1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder1 tbsp
- Cumin powder1 tsp
- Saltto taste
- Water as required
- Curry leaves2 – 3
- Ingredients for Pakora
- Gram flour250 gm
- Onion2
- Green chilies4
- Coriander leaves¼ bunch
- Turmeric powder½ tsp
- Cumin seeds1 tbsp
- Coriander seeds1 tbsp
- Crushed red pepper1 tbsp
- Saltto taste
- Oilfor frying
Cooking Directions
In a bowl mix together 250 gm yogurt, 1 tbsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp chili powder, 1 tbsp cumin powder and salt to taste.
Now add a little water, mix well, then add in 125 gm flour with a little more water.
Heat add little oil in a pan, add in chopped onion and sauté for a few seconds. Add in yogurt mixture.
Cook till thickens. Lastly heat a little ghee, add in 1 tbsp ground cumin seeds and 2 – 3 curry leaves.
Pour tarka mixture on top of karhi. In a bowl put together 2 chopped onion, ¼ bunch of coriander leaves and 4 chopped green chilies.
Add in 1 tbsp crushed red pepper, 1 tbsp cumin seeds, salt and 250 gm gram flour.
Now fry fritter with the gram flour mixture.Put all the fritters in karhi mixture, remove from fire and keep aside.
For rice heat ghee in a pan, add 2 tbsp cumin seeds, fry till brown.
Add ½ kg rice, salt to taste and water as required. Simmer on low flame till rice are tender. Serve karhi with boiled rice.
