Shahid Khaqan Abbassi may be an electable, grossly rich, and strong member of PML-N but he has proven to be the most incompetent minister so far in the cabinet of Nawaz Sharif. In order to save the reputation of this government and to set an example for other ministers, he must resign and resign now. A full blown, solid, transparent, quick and ruthless investigation should be carried out against Ministry of Petroleum, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) officials, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and other private companies. Prime Minister has suspended Federal Secretary Petroleum Abid Saeed, Additional Secretary Naeem Malik, DG oil Muhammad Azam and PSO Managing Director Amjad Janjua. But that’s not enough. Suspensions are norm and hardly amount to any punishment. What is needed is resignation of Shahid Khaqan Abbassi and if he doesn’t resign, he must be fired. People are seeking the resignation of Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Its been one week now that petrol is not available in the market. People leave their houses at six in morning and stand in queues for 10 hours to get a litre of petrol. This situation is worst in Punjab especially in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and Lahore. Petroleum ministry is giving lame excuses and reluctant to admits its failure. This is unacceptable. Nawaz Sharif must introspect and admit his failure. His ministers except the minister concerned are admitting the failure here. As usual Nawaz Sharif’s response was delayed. What has gotten into Nawaz Sharif in this tenure? It’s understandable that challenges are huge and numerous but that’s how it is. Its also true that he is not directly responsible for this shortage but its his responsibility to make sure that ministers do their jobs, which Khaqan Abbassi didn’t. It seems that Khaqan is busy in his own businesses of airliners and rest. He should be relieved to focus where ever he wants to.
