Recipe for Sweet Lentils (Dal)

Ingredients

  • Orange pulse (masoor dal) 1/2 cup
  • Yellow pulse (moong dal) 2 tbsp
  • Whole black pulse (masoor dal) 2 tbsp
  • Onions medium size, sliced 4
  • Garlic cloves 4
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Ginger and garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) 1/2 bunch
  • Mint leaves (chopped) 1/2 bunch
  • Fresh green chilies whole sliced 4
  • Margarine or butter 1 tbsp
  • Cooking oil 3/4 cup

Cooking Directions

Wash lentils and soak for 1/2 an hour.

Heat oil in a pan, fry onions until golden brown, remove half of them and keep aside.

Add lentils and fry for 5 minutes.

Add turmeric powder, chilies and ginger and garlic paste.

Add 2 cups of water and cook till lentils are tender, then grind them and add another 2 cups of water.

After 5 minutes add margarine, all the green herbs, onions and sliced garlic and let it simmer.

The dish will taste better if cooked on low heat for longer period of time.
