Recipe for Chana Dal Gosht, Lamb with Chickpeas
Ingredients
- Lamb (cut into pieces) 1 kg
- Bengal gram 500 g
- Oil 1/2 cup
- Onions(sliced) 2
- Garlic paste 3 tsp
- Ginger paste 1 1/2 tsp
- Cinnamon sticks 2
- Black cardamoms 3
- Cloves(laung) 5
- Bay leaves 2
- Cumin seeds 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder1 tsp
- Salt to taste
Cooking Directions
Wash the bengal gram,and soak it in cold water for 1 hour.
Drain. Heat the oil in a pan, saute the onions till they turn golden brown,
Add the garlic & ginger pastes, & stir fry for a few minutes.
Stir the meat,along with the cinnamon, cardamoms, cloves & bay leaves.
When the meat start to stick to the pan, sprinkle some water, & stir fry to avoid burning, while allowing the meat to brown.
Add some water again, & repeat this process 2 or 3 times, till the meat is well browned & fragrant.
Add the bengal gram,& stir on low heat,along with the meat,for about 10 minutes.
Add the cumin,the turmeric & red chilli powder, & the salt.
Add the water,cover and simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the bengal gram from sticking & burning.
Garnish with green chillies.
