Half of the candidates score over 60% marks in Medical colleges Entrance test. The Entrance Test results 2013 for Medical and Dental colleges in Punjab were announced recently, where almost half of the candidates secured more than 60% marks. The results were announced by the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore. The number of candidates appearing in the Entrance test held on 22nd September, was 41,677. Out of these 19,063 aspiring medical students scored more than 60 percent marks. The applicants securing 50 to 59% marks were 5644 in number, whereas those scoring 40 to 49% marks were 5323 candidates.
The remainin 11,647 candidates were not able to score over 40% marks. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has created some regulations to abolish the criteria of Passing or Failing in this Colleges’ Entrance exam. A student from Multan district – Mashhood Iqbal s/o Malik Muhammad Iqbal appeared on the top by securing 1076 marks out of a total of 1100 marks. Another boy from Faisalabad – Shahwaz Ahmad s/o Riaz Ahmad bagged the second position by getting 1070 marks and a girl student from Gujranwala – Wajeeha Naveed D/O Naveed Zafar came third by scoring 1065 marks.
There are 3405 seats available in the 20 public sector MBBS programmes, along with 216 seats in the public sector BDS programmes. In the private sector there are 28 medical colleges offering 3050 MBBS seats and 12 dental colleges offering 715 BDS seats all over the province. In the next phase, the eligible candidates will be competing for admissions in these programmes. According to the PMDC formula for eligibility on open merit admissions, any candidate securing more than 80% marks can apply.
