It has become the habit and second nature of the rich, wealthy, and powerful in Pakistan to use public areas near their homes and business places for their own purposes. It has become a routine for the elite in Pakistan to block the whole streets in their neighborhood in the name of security. You are quite unfortunate if you happen to live in the vicinity of house of any elite, as life would become a pain for you and your family. This elite circle in Pakistan happen to have numerous houses in posh localities of every city in the country. For example, Asif Ali Zardari the head honcho of PPP has homes in F-6 sector of Islamabad, Bahria Town Lahore, and in Clifton. These houses are besides of their Larkana and Nawab Shah residences. The thing which is common among these palatial houses is that streets around them are permanently blocked with barbed wires, barricades, concrete walls, and with heavy presence of police. Other neighbors have to get a special pass to even go to their own house.
These poor neighbors of the elite have to register their guests with the police. It’s like a jail in the jungle. They cannot hold any family gatherings or even birthdays of kids. They cannot go to their own roofs, and they cannot stand or sit in front of their houses. This goes on round the clock, throughout the year, even when the elite idiot is not in the house. PTI did the great thing to launch a campaign in Karachi to tear down the wall in front of Bilawal house as it marks the protest against this elite culture. Same should be done in the Raiwind, Lahore or in Murree residence of the Nawaz Sharif. Quite unaccustomed to this, the PPP government in Sindh ordered the police to attack the peaceful protesters in Karachi who were objecting against this wall. But these things cannot stop the common people, who abhor such elite display of arrogance. Let’s claim back our public property.
