The doctors’ strike in Balochistan province of Pakistan has entered its 50th day and all operation theaters and Out Patient Departments (OPDs) remained closed across the insurgency-hit province on Wednesday.

The strike started on 16th October after the kidnapping of eye specialist, Dr. Saeed Khan. Though, he was recovered on 28th October, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan chapter decided to continue with the strike until the government accept their demands.

Balochistan administration arrested doctors during protest, charged them and sealed their private clinics. PMA Balochistan has demanded to government to quash cases against doctors and reinstate them to their former positions.

Meanwhile, the Balochistan Health Department has announced that the Mandatory Government Service Act for doctors, which was approved by the provincial Assembly, would soon be approved by the governor.

The department said that after the approval of the governor, it would be an obligation on doctors to provide emergency services in the hospitals and anyone who violates the act would be terminated from the job.

Patients in the province are facing severe difficulties due to closure of out-patient departments and operation theatres.
