Yesterday, there was a major social media incident in Pakistan when from the UFone’s twitter account; nasty attacks were made on the health of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The account from the telecom company also retweeted some obnoxious tweets made by the PTI social media wing. This went on for sometime and then after hue and cry from masses at the social media, that stopped. PMLN was naturally furious and they started trend of BoycottUfone. That trend caught on and it still is raging on. Ufone spokesperson has said that they regret that and are investigating the issue. This is quite serious even if its a security breach at the UFone.
If UFone cannot control and manage their own social media accounts, how they are safeguarding my call and contact data? Telecommunication in this day and age has become quite sophisticated and this breach by UFone is very serious. UFone has to come up with clear explanation as how did this happen, who did this, and what they have done to punish the culprits and more importantly how they are ensuring that this doesn’t happen again in the future. UFone is a telecom business which cannot afford to be siding with one political party. They also need to warn their brand person Adeel Hashmi to avoid from making obnoxious statements. Better they should just part with this guy. PTA and other telecom regulators must take notice of this and make sure that UFone is answerable to the nation.
