I hope that General Raheel doesn’t listen to his usual aides in GHQ who always pump up the army chief against civilian leaders and who always try to derail the democracy. I hope that General Raheel would keep on playing the positive role he is playing so far and would leave in the dignified way come November. For the relief of friends of democracy, Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif have held a one-on-one meeting yesterday. This certainly has alarmed the hawaldar anchors and people like Imran Khan/Sheikh Rasheed who are hoping a coup because that’s the only way they can assume power.
DG Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar also appears to be a decent person. He has been given free hand in Karachi and elsewhere just like Raheel Sharif by the federal government and one hopes that he would cherish that. PMLN broke away from supporting corruption of PPP just because of operation in Karachi. That vengeful PPP now stands with PTI, all set to derail the government. One hopes that General Raheel would not succumb to the delightful invitations and he would keep doing his professional duties. PM Nawaz should also work more closely with the army chief and he must show flexibility here.
