|Subject : Sharjeel, Khalid suspension: Officials confirm having evidence of wrongdoing
Two top PCB and PSL officials have confirmed that there was evidence of wrongdoing after two Islamabad United players were provisionally suspended for their alleged links with a syndicate involved in cricket corruption. "The Pakistan Cricket Board have today provisionally suspended two players under its Anti-Corruption Code as part of an ongoing investigation into an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the Pakistan Super League,” PCB had said in a statement on Friday. "Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended and the rigorous and wide-ranging investigation by the PCB supported by the ICC will continue as part of collective efforts to protect the integrity of the sport," it added. Following the update, PSL Chairman Najam Sethi confirmed that there was evidence of wrongdoing and that they immediately took action on the information received.
"We were expecting bookies, and that's why we were extra-vigilant for PSL 2. Then we got evidence that there is some wrongdoing and we took action. We will take similar action whenever we find anything damaging PSL," Sethi told journalists in Dubai. "We have taken this step according to the rules. These are PCB's rules which are stricter. Both have been suspended and issued show-cause notice," said Sethi, who is also the Chairman of PCB's executive committee. Meanwhile, Chairman PCB Shahryar Khan on his arrival in Karachi, confirmed that there was evidences and that they [PCB investigators] are gathering further evidence. “We have evidence, definitely have evidence. We have proof against a few, and are trying to gather evidence against more," he told media in Karachi. "We need to be very strict with such people who are trying to corrupt the game, we'll give exemplary punishment to corrupt elements," he reaffirmed.
