Subject : Shahid Afridi named as Pakistan's captain for World Cup
Shahid Afridi will captain Pakistan in the ICC World Cup after his side's one-day series win in New Zealand.Afridi, who has been leading Pakistan in limited-over internationals since last year, will be supported at the World Cup by Misbah-ul-Haq. He has been named as vice-captain but had been touted as a possible skipper after leading Pakistan to a 1-0 victory in the test series against New Zealand. All-rounder Afridi has played 311 ODIs, scoring more than 6,500 runs. His Pakistan team clinched their one-day series victory over New Zealand on Thursday, thanks to a maiden ODI century by Ahmed Shehzad. While his ODI captaincy has been successful, Afridi stepped down as Pakistan's Test captain last July and retired from Test cricket after his side's 150-run loss to Australia at Lord's in the second game of their series. The 30-year-old had only returned to Tests after a four-year absence when he was named skipper for Pakistan's tour to England. Pakistan play their first World Cup match against Kenya on 23 February in Sri Lanka. Source: BBC
