Recipe for POTATO CHANA DAL FRY
Ingredients
- Potatoes 3 medium
- Onion 1 medium
- Curry leaves 5-6
- Green chilli 3
- Chana dal (Bengal gram) 1 cup
- Oil 2 tsp
- Salt 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
- Ginger paste 1/2 tsp
- coriander-cumin powder 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala, a pinch
- Turmeric powder, a pinch
- Coriander leaves, finely chopped 2 tbsp
Cooking Directions
Take chana dal in a vessel. Add water until the dal is immersed completely in water. Boil chana dal for 25 minutes in microwave. Or else, you can pressure cook until 1 whistle.
Drain the water and keep chana dal ready.
Boil potatoes for 20 minutes in microwave or pressure cook them until 2 whistles. Cool and peel off the skin. Mash them and keep aside.
Cut onions and green chilli into small pieces and keep aside.
Heat oil in a cooking pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add ginger paste, curry leaves, green chilli and fry for 20 seconds.
Add onions, turmeric powder and salt. Cook until onion pieces turn golden brown.
Add mashed potatoes, chilli powder, coriander-cumin powder, garam masala and mix. Fry for about 5 minutes.
Add chana dal and mix. Fry for another 5 minutes. Taste for salt and add more if needed.
Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with chapati/puri/white rice.
