MQM is a fish, which cannot survive outside of the muddy waters of rule. MQM is a specie, which cannot survive outside the sphere of deals, intrigues, conspiracies and blackmailing. Their mafia-oriented existence makes it an inevitable thing for them to always remain in the shadows of those who are in power. They simply cannot survive without it. After spending decades and decades, MQM has grown accustomed to their way of life. They thrive in the government and whine like opposition. They twist the arms of the major partner in the rule, extracting as much fishy benefits for them as possible. They have milked almost every ruler; civilian or military in Pakistan after their inception.
For the first time, they got a shocker, when this PML-N government didn’t throw them bones according to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain. Though PML-N still hasn’t manage to muster the courage to handover MQM killers of Imran Farooq to the Scotland Yard, they have shown some mettle by not corrupting their government by inviting MQM to the roost. They deserve that credit. It was kind of funeral for MQM, when nobody from the PML-N visited 90, praised Altaf Hussain like heck, got showered by the petals, held a press conference outside 90 wearing garlands accompanied by Farooq Sattar, declaring MQM the best thing ever happened to the universe. MQM actually had no choice but to go back to the PPP to join provincial Sind government, and that’s what they did.
PPP also hasn’t learned their lessons. They got hit hard in elections due to their incompetency, corruption and the so-called prolonging politics. They prolonged their rule by tolerating MQM, while Karachi suffered. Now after another round of incompetency from senile Qaim Ali Shah, the CM of Sind, PPP feels weakened and cornered. Instead of replacing Qaim, they have opted for easy way of cementing them by having MQM on board. This is not good for Karachi, but this would really prove last nail in the coffin of PPP in at least Karachi, and here is a chance for PTI. Only if Imran Khan would have sagacity to focus here, instead of Bani Gala and Zaman Park.
