At least 70 people were killed while many others injured in a powerful bomb blast that targeted a church at Kohati Bazaar of Peshawar city, capital of terrorism-hit North West province of Khyber Pakhtonkhaw. Two suicide blasts occurred inside main gate of “Pakistan Church” when people of minority Christian people were coming out after Sunday prayer service.
SSP Operation Najeeb-ul-Allah told the media that two suicide bombers entered in yard of Church and blew themselves up. 500 to 600 worshipers were inside church when militants targeted the church. Eye witnesses said suicide bomber were in police uniforms. Blasts were so powerful that it severely damaged 130 years old historical building of Church, window glasses of nearby building also broken. According to officials, the injured and killed people included women and children also.
Medics said more than 45 wounded brought to Leady Reading Hospital where condition of many injured reported in critical which feared increase in death toll. Rescue teams reached at the scene and shifted the injured people to nearby hospitals for treatment. Emergency was imposed in all hospitals of the city. Christian protesters took on streets and protested against the blasts. Militants targeted Church minutes after when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was left for US to attend UN general assembly summit and to meet world leaders, wrong message was given to Western countries amid PM visit.
