15-year-old Pakistani swimmer, Anum Banday, who represented Pakistan in London 2012 Olympics, is the holder of two National Open Swimming records in the 200m breaststroke and the 400m individual medley (I M).Anum, who is daughter of a prominent dental surgeon Dr Ninette Banday and Burhan Banday, was awarded an invitational wild card entry by FINA/IOC to participate in London 2012 Olympics.She is the third Pakistani female swimmer to make waves at the Games after Kiran Khan, who represented Pakistan at the Games in Beijing in 2008 and Rubab Raza, who made Olympic history for Pakistan by becoming the country's first female swimmer at Athens in 2004.
Anum, who lives and trains in London, has represented Pakistan on several occasions. She participated in the 400 m I M at the London Olympics and broke her own record in the 400 m I M. She had broken record of Kiran Khan (who represented Pakistan at the Games in Beijing in 2008) in the 400-IM at the Shanghai FINA World Championships last year. These championships were the qualifying round for the London 2012 Olympics. She thus became the Pakistan record holder for this event with a time of 5:37.11. Later, she smashed her own Pakistan record by almost 3 seconds with a new time of 5:34.64.Anum is optimistic that she will dominate the upcoming National Women's Swimming Championship scheduled to be held in Pakistan later this year in the breaststroke, I M and freestyle events.
