More bacteria on mobile phones than a toilet

A recent study has found that on average there are more bacteria on a cellphone than a toilet.

In fact, the tests show that there were up to 10 times of bugs, which can cause nausea and stomach problems, on mobile phones than in lavatories.

According to experts, one of the reasons is that people pass phones with each other and never clean them, allowing bacteria to breed.

Charles Gerba, a microbiologist at the University of Arizona, said during his ongoing experiments he has found that bugs get on to a phone because it is so close to our hands and mouths.

“When somebody lets someone else use their mobile bacteria easily get on to the device too,” he said.

Previous research has found that other things we assume are clean are in reality rather disgusting.

Computer keyboards, for instance, are five times dirtier than the average lavatory seat.

Phones are just not part of our cleaning routine whereas we should think about giving them a wipe with an antibacterial substance every now and then, Gerba told the paper.
