Top five famous Pakistani sportsmen

Sports in Pakistan looks very different than other parts of the world.  Instead of focusing on baseball and football, fans in Pakistan enjoy cricket, field hockey, and a variety of sports.  The stars of these sports are among the most the most famous sportsmen in the country.  Let’s take a quick look at some of the most famous Pakistani sportsmen.

Jahangir Khan
Jahangir Khan is easily the greatest player in the history of professional squash.  From 1981 to 1986, he won an incredible 555 consecutive matches.  This is the longest winning streak of all-time for an athlete in professional sports.  He currently serves as the President of the World Squash Federation, a title he has held since 2002.

Hasan Habib
Hasan Habib is easily the most successful Pakistani poker player in the history of the game.  Habib has been one of the most successful players in the over the last 15 years and has one WSOP bracelet after winning the Stud Hi-Lo Event at the 2004 WSOP.  For his career, Habib has earned $5.4 Million in poker events around the world.

Imran Khan
Imran Khan was Pakistan’s most successful cricket captain, laying for the Pakistan team from 1971 through 1992. In 1992, the helped to lead Pakistan to their first, and so far only, World Cup victory.  He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2010.  In 1996, he formed the PTI party and has been a polarizing force in the nation since.  Due to his political policies and his popularity, many think that Khan may be in line to become the country’s Prime Minister.

Hassan Sardar
Considered one of the best center forward’s that Pakistan has ever developed, Hassan Sardar helped to lead the Pakistan Field Hockey team to the gold medal in both the 1982 World Cub and in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.  After retiring from competitive action, he went on to manage the Pakistani team and currently is the Chief Selector for the team.

Wasim Akram
Wasim Akram is considered one of the best fast bowlers in cricket history and hold the world record in List A cricket for most wickets at 881.  In addition, he was one of the founders of reverse swing bowling.  He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009 and currently serves as the bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
