Free minutes and bulk SMSes on SIMs activation, gift hampers and different prizes by different cellular operators helped them attracted million customers in past nine months of the current financial year, as 1,333 average SIMs were sold out in different parts of Pakistan on every hour.

The bombardment of advertisements of different cellular companies are overwhelmed on TV, Radio and Internet and giant sized billboards every day and every hour that  caught the attention of the customers who purchased new SIMs for availing various new packages, SMS bundles and internet services.

A farmer to businessman, a villager to dual foreigner, an elderly man to a six grade child now everyone in Pakistan can afford mobile phone services thanks to the growing competition among cellular operators and handset importers, which made easy for them to access the technology for communication and entertainment purposes.

In July to March, an average 31,943 SIMs were activated every day on the networks of five cellular phone operators—Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Zong and Warid Tel.

Similarly, 0.95 million connections of the mobile phones have been sold out on average every month in the same period that translated into the overall addition of 8.62 million new subscribers into total base, which stood at 118.316 million by March 2012.

It means that every 68 person out of 100 have mobile phone connection in Pakistan, that is, the teledensity of the country stood at 68 percent by March. But it is not necessary that the figures might be accurate because people at large are carrying multiple SIMs of different networks at the same time for availing on-net calls and SMS bundles offered by different mobile companies.

The handsets having dual or multiple SIMs function has given impetus the trend of using multiple services of different operators by the users.

Whether it is business conference or romantic talks, gossips or backbiting, the mobile phone is used for every communication for purpose of saving time to passing time. There is no limit, no boundaries, no ethics and no time.

The teenagers frequently talk day and night on mobile phone— some for studies and some for “personal affairs” (Sub Keh Do), as matter of fact the cellular phone at large gave them all direction to use and misuse their services without any control.

The youth in majority are large buyers of mobile phone connections obviously because the country’s population largely based on the age group of 18 to 35 years but it is only for bracketing at standard level.

The mobile phone is being utilized by 12 to 15 years old kids as well in the country particularly for “Talkshawk” whatever how much teachers impose fine on its use in the class room.
