Contrary to what some anchors are telling us, Shahbaz Sharif is not replacing Nawaz Sharif. He is not resigning from his post as chief minister of Punjab and he is not contesting elections for the national assembly from NA-63 or from anywhere else. Nawaz Sharif is fully abreast of the happenings in the country and taking advantage of technology as he runs the government from London for the time being. He has been briefed daily by his ministers and aides and he also presided the cabinet meeting. He also chaired the national economic council and took crucial decisions.
He also chaired that meeting which approved development budget of Rs 1675 billion for the fiscal year 2016-2017. He not only presided it, he also gave instructions for amendments to Ishaq Dar. It was business as usual yesterday at the executive level. Prime Minister is also in touch with principal secretary, military secretary and other staff on the country’s affairs. So all is ok in country. But some anchors and armchair analysts are trying to spread panic and anarchy in country by spreading rumors that Nawaz is out and Shahbaz will be in. Some are taking name of Chaudhry Nisar. This is highly absurd and unfortunate and the worst thing is that there is nobody to leash these anchors out there.
