CERN is where world wide web was developed. CERN is the place to be if you want to research in science and technology. To the credit of Pakistan, it has managed to obtain the assoicate membership of this august organization last year and Pakistani scientists are now part of it. The European Organisation for Nuclear Research is known as CERN has given Pakistan its much sought after membership after a long and rigorous process and ratification. It first assessed and analyzed the status of Pakistan’s contribution in sceince and only then approved the inclusion.
That is why the visit of Pakistani premier Mian Nawaz Sharif to CERN is very welcoming. According to media reports Nawaz Sharif addressed the scientists there and also lauded the Pakistani scientiests. Pakistan considers it a matter of immense pride to have become an associate member of CERN last year especially as it was the first non-European country to have achieved this milestone. He said, “Our associate membership of CERN is a recognition of the achievements of our scientists engineers and technicians.” The matter of pride is that Pakistan is the first member of CERN among Asian countries. The associate membership has opened a new era of cooperation that will strengthen the long-term partnership between CERN and the Pakistani scientific community. Nawaz Sharif is paving the way for Pakistani industry to bid for CERN contracts, thus opening up opportunities for industrial collaboration in areas of advanced technology.
