Dazed, shaken and frightened right after the most powerful earthquake in Pakistan, people from all over the country were at loss to even speak. Nearly thousand people have lost their lives and thousands upon thousands houses and buildings collapsed. Again the month of October proved lethal for the country with respect to the earthquakes. From 2005 to 2008 and then in 2013 and now in 2015, Pakistan has seen massive earthquake. As the time passes, the intensity is increasing. Thankfully, though, this time the tremor was not as shallow as it was last time and so the damages are limited, albeit still very high.
The Met Office in Pakistan said the magnitude was 8.1 on the Richter scale and the more reliable US Geological Survey put the epicentre near Jurm in northeast Afghanistan, 250 kilometres (160 miles) from the capital Kabul and at a depth of 213.5 kilometres. This area is very active due to fault lines. The epicentre is just a few hundred kilometres from the site of a 7.6 magnitude quake that struck in October 2005, killing more than 75,000 people and displacing some 3.5 million more. Malakand division and the Northern areas of Pakistan are severely hit. Civilian and military outfits are rushing to the scene and the response time is laudable. Pakistan should also take international help in this very critical time.
