As usual, after leaving one ally MQM has already started looking for yet another because it cannot survive without a powerful companion and hardly without being in government. Contrary to the common perception, instead of PTI, MQM is warming up towards the ruling party in Islamabad, the PML-N. Muttahida Qaumi Movement has now realized that they cannot spread out to the whole country. Their narrow-mindedness and violent politics have confined them to the Karachi, where PTI has already made massive inroads. Given time, MQM all set to loose ground. That is why all of a sudden, the head honcho of MQM Altaf Hussain has flared up the Mohajir card and now MQM is demanding making Karachi and Hyderabad a separate province, carved out of Sindh. Its the same Altaf and MQM who not long ago called Sindh their mother, and inquired, ‘who divided the mother?’ But you cannot trust MQM. If we get any lesson from the politics of MQM over the last few decades, its that MQM cannot be trusted.
They are hard to swallow as allies and hard to throw up as adversaries. When in government, they blackmail the other partner, and if in opposition, they create chaos. With PTI threatening their power-base of Karachi, and PPP raising its ante in Hyderabad, and with Yard on head of Altaf Hussain, and with internal fissures within the ranks of MQM; MQM has to do something drastic to remain in the game, and that is why they have come out all guns blazing. As they leave Sindh government, they are eying joining the federal government with PML-N. A high level delegation of MQM will be meeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a day or two, and there already are talks of their joining hands. What a blunder that would be from PML-N side. PML-N is battered and bruised after an exhausting and near-miss fight with Qadri, Imran and establishment. Still that is not over, and they already look thrashed and beaten down. Its understandable that they need all the help they can muster, but MQM is not help. They are a liability and they would make government implode. Its better to loose government than to make or sustain one with the aid of MQM.
