Recipe for Pita Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour (not self rising)
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • Water
  • 1/2 tablespoon dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Cooking Directions

Mix the flour with salt. Make a hole in the middle of the mix and add in it 1/4 cup warm water, sugar and dry yeast. Do not mix and leave it for 10-15 minutes.

You should knead when you see bubbles in water, sugar, and yeast mixture.

Add water gradually and slowly while you knead. Keep on kneading till you get a nice smooth texture of the dough, as soft as your earlobe.

Let it rise. Make 3 to 4 balls from this dough and leave them covered for 45 minutes.

Spread the balls into bigger circles (should not be less than 1/4 inch in thickness). Leave them to rise for 40 minutes.

In a pre-heated nonstick pan, flip each of the breads (more than once) in turn on medium heat.

The bread is ready when it''s puffed, like in picture # 8. Put it aside and cover to keep it soft.
