Contraction means to reduce the size of a body by by decreasing the molecular distance caused by higher stress/low temperature(cooling)/etc.

while

liquefaction means to change a body into liquid either from gas or from solid. Gas can be changed into liquid by lowering the temperature (cooling), and solid can be changed into liquid by heating/grinding and mixing with another liquid etc. The above all processes are included in Liquefaction.(This definition of liquefaction is according to Physicist and Chemist. An Earth Scientist defines Liquefaction completely different from above )

Hope u will understand. please feel free ask in case of any objection/misunderstanding.
