Subject : Self gifting rate rises in Britain
According to a survey, the average amount spent on "selfgifting" has risen to nearly £280 a year. At the same time, nearly one in four people expects to spend less on gifts for their family in the coming year. Nearly one in two people has bought their own gifts for a special occasion, while one in 10 always buys their own gifts. The research, commissioned by Barclaycard, revealed that six in 10 Britons still believe it is the thought that counts when it comes to gifts, but one in six would rather have chosen their gifts themselves. Nearly one in four (23 per cent) does not trust their family and friends to get the right presents, so believes self–gifting is "the most sensible way to get what they want." The most popular self–gifts include clothing and shoes, TVs and music equipment, alcohol and tobacco, recreation and cultural items and restaurants and hotels.
