Kinds of Topologies

i. Hierarchical topology (tree) Hierarchical topology (tree) is a very common network found today. The software to control the network is relatively simple and the topology provides a concentration point for control and error resolution.
ii. Bus Topology: This arrangement is quite popular in local area networks. It is relatively simple to control traffic flow between the computers because the bus permits all stations to receive every transmission; it is less expensive network can be easily expended.
iii. Star Topology: The Star topology is another widely used structure for data communication systems. One of the major reasons for its continued use is based on historical precedence, the star network was used in the 1960s complex and the traffic flow is simple. All the traffic passes through the hub of the star, the central computer.
iv. Ring topology: The Ring topology is so named because of the circular aspect of the data flow. In most cases, data flows in one direction only, w9ith one single station receiving the signal and relaying it to the next station on the ring.
v. Mesh Topology: The mesh topology is attraction is its relative immunity to bottleneck and failure problems. Due to the multiplicity of paths, traffic can be routed around failed computers or busy ones
