Sonia Gandhi ranked Sixth in the Forbes’ List of 100 Most Powerful Women in the World Sonia Gandhi ranked number six in the Forbes magazine?s list of the world?s 100 most powerful women. Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the ruling United Progressive Alliance and the Congress party is among the five Indian women who have been named in the world?s 100 most powerful women list. The other four Indian women in the list are Indira Nooyi (12), Padmashree Warrior (58), Chanda Kochar (59) and Kiran Mazzomdar Shaw (80). Gandhi was figured on 7th position in the list of powerful women in 2011. German Chancellor Angella Markel topped the list for a second successive year. She was followed by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, who have been ranked number two and three respectively for second year in a row. Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and wife of Microsoft Corp co-founder Bill Gates, and Jill Abramson, executive editor of the New York Times was ranked fourth and fifth respectively. Michelle Obama, wife of the US President Barak Obama and IMF director Christine Lagarde ranked seventh and eighth respectively in the list. The magazine?s list included women who have been working in the areas such as policymaking, business, entertainment, technology and nonprofit organizations.
