General Manager Turkish Airline, Besim Perolli, talking to The News at the second anniversary celebrations of flight operation of the airline from Lahore said that following the opening of the Consulate General, Turkish Cooperation & Development Agency (TIKA) Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center and Turkish Red Crescent will also open its offices in the Punjab capital which will increase the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

The airline has increased it flight operations by 160 percent in just two years of span increasing to daily flight from three flights a week shows the trade and business potential of the Punjab, Besim said. He mentioned the airline has also playing vital intermediary role between the Azerbaijan and Pakistan by operating flights directly from Islamabad to Baku. He said the bilateral business the Azerbaijan and Pakistan was adversely affected when the Pakistan International Airline has closed its flight operations to Azerbaijan. However, now the bilateral business has again reviving and Turkish Airline is proud to contribute its positively in this regard, he said.

Besim said that Turkish Airline is going to celebrate its 35 anniversary as it is the oldest international airline operating in Pakistan since 1981. ‘We never leave Pakistan alone despite all ups and down, 9/11 and other incidents while keep operating from Pakistan”, he said, adding Turkey is committed for economic development of Pakistan and wants improve the bilateral economic relations to the level of brotherly relations. Besim believed that the overall business environment in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab is vibrant and Turkish investors and government keenly investing in the economic development of Pakistan. He said two leading Turkish companies already operating in Punjab which proves the level of investment is coming from Turkey to Pakistan. Parliamentarian Tahir Alam Kahn speaking on the occasion said that present government under the leadership of Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif was increasing the bilateral ties between the two countries. He said the Punjab government had also invited the Turkish businesses to invest in Pakistan and Punjab while number of companies had already started their business and trade with Pakistani counterparts. ‘Oz Pak and Al-buraq presence in Punjab is open example of Turkish investment and trust
