Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday expressed deep concern over the loss of life and property of Rohingya Muslims during the ethnic clashes in Myanmar.

The president Zardari expressed his concern over the killings in a letter addressed to the President of Myanmar, Thein Sein.

Zardari called for hastening the process of rehabilitation of Rohingya Muslims so that they can return to their homes and lead a safe and secure life.

The President said that the government and the people of Pakistan were distressed to learn about the losses of the Muslims and were deeply concerned about their plight.

Underlining the importance of peaceful co-existence of various communities for the strengthening of democracy in Myanmar, the President said that the communal harmony was imperative to reap the fruits of democracy.

He said that only peaceful coexistence of various communities would ensure that the democratic transition was not reversed.

It is to be mentioned here that at least 80 people were killed and several others injured after the ethnic clashes between Muslims and Buddhists erupted in the Rakhine state of Burma. The Amnesty International also demanded a probe regarding the killings of Muslims.

The US state department report has also revealed that the Burma Muslims were given equal opportunities in the country.
